If you are in NYC tomorrow you'll probably see some portion of the Mitzvah tank parade. Every year to celebrate the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson's birthday, mobile homes are converted to Mitzvah tanks.
This year to celebrate the Rebbe's 114th Birthday, 66 tanks (corresponding to this years 66th year of the Rebbe's leadership) will be parading from Crown Heights, Brooklyn into Manhattan. Each Mitzvah tank is equipped with a Rabbinical crew which can consist of Rabbis, teen scholars, and even elementary age students!
Since the Rebbe's Birthday is always 4 days before Pesach, these Tankistim have all the paraphernalia needed to spread the message about the upcoming holiday. Hand baked Shmurah Matzah, and pamphlets describing customs and practices for the holiday are offered. Everyone is invited to board the Mitzvah tank and have the opportunity to don Tefillin, receive Shabbos candles and literature, and to do a mitzvah-good deed to bring more holiness, goodness, and kindness into the world.
Sometimes people are too shy or busy to board the mitzvah tank, so these young men will go out and come to you. I'm proud to say that my brothers will be volunteering and helping out in this event. You'll probably be asked if you're Jewish. If you are, these young men (some as young as 9) will be glad to answer any of your questions about Judaism and the upcoming holiday of Pesach. They will probably have pamphlets and Matzah. If your not, just smile and decline. Or maybe you have a Jewish friend or co-worker? Gift them some Judaism!
